Who we are
Sampark Foundation was set up by Anupama Nayar and Vineet Nayar, former Vice Chairman and CEO of HCL Technologies and author of Harvard Business Press bestseller Employees First: Customer Second”, with a belief that ‘frugal innovation’ and its effective implementation in partnership with the government can drive large-scale improvement in learning outcomes. This thought prompted our founders to dedicate their lives to this advancing the cause of primary education in the country. Our journey of learning, covering 76,000 rural schools, 70 lakh children in 6 states (Chhattisgarh, Uttrakhand, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana) along with 2,00,000 teachers is just that—a learning journey.
With innovation-led large-scale social change as the central idea, our goal is to significantly improve the quality of education for 20 million children by 2020 across 200,000 schools in 7 states.
Supported small-scale NGOs working in the field of education, livelihood, water management, agriculture

Sampark Foundation is in the pursuit of education equality for millions of children in rural India. We implement our intervention in what is called a “waterfall” model, where an idea or innovation spreads organically to reach a large number of beneficiaries.
We have already reached 7 million children in 76,000 schools across 6 states, making our program one of the world’s largest primary school transformation initiatives by a Foundation.
- Frugal innovation and its effective implementation in partnership with the government can drive large-scale improvement in learning outcomes.
- The problems at scale an only be solved with patience, perseverance and lots of passion.
- If we can get a child excited about learning, nothing will stop her from getting to where she wants to go irrespective of all the constraints she might face on her way.
- We put teachers at the heart of our plans so that they own and drive the change and claim credit for better learning outcomes.
