How Low-Cost Innovations Are Enabling the Right to Education in India

India’s Right to Education Act, introduced in 2009, makes school free and compulsory for all children aged 6 to 14. It’s a key step to ensure every child gets a fair chance to learn and grow. But, education being so important, why was there still a need for a law to achieve this target?

India is a vast country with regions that have extremely difficult terrain for large-scale development. At times, regions have been left behind in economic and social sense as well. This created a divide that made it impossible for everyone to access education and develop the resources to sustain it (on individual and community levels). This created a need for action at a large scale, which could create long-term effects and change the situation.

Low Cost Education Solutions That Contribute to The Mission

Among various initiatives, twenty years ago, with a vision to deliver education in every part of India, we started developing digital innovations. These tools were a part of our teach-easy pedagogy. Designed to make the classroom an experience that fosters the trust of teachers, students, and the community involved, we are spread over eight states and 1.31 lakh schools.

Here is our three-part solution that helped us empower 7.95 lakh teachers and 1.69 crore children with low cost education innovations:

- Teacher Training Program With Ongoing Support: Educators are the foundation of a good education system. They create a good environment in the classroom for favourable learning experiences. However, even teachers struggle with various challenges. Our teacher training program aimed to alleviate these issues with practical training, support and resources.

- Six Innovations: Teaching tools are the teacher’s biggest support and children’s most influential factor in attention span. Children, being innately curious, want to learn, but unsuitable methods can halt their natural instincts and progress. To overcome this, we created tools that provide hands-on experience, audiovisual engagement, and stress-free assessment options at a friendly price of less than $1 a year per child. - Teach-Easy Pedagogy: Crafted carefully by keeping the state-approved syllabus at the core. Our pedagogy was filled with -

- 600+ lesson plans
- 2000+ Animated Video lessons
- 100+ Science experiments
- 100+ Stories
- 50+ Rhymes
- 3500+ Worksheet pages
- 6000+ Assessment Questions

This made teaching easier and learning organised to keep all children on par with their counterparts.

The Journey Over the Years

As we enabled the implementation of our smart classroom program, ‘Sampark Smartshala,’ we encountered numerous academic and behavioural boosts. Attendance rates jumped by 20 per cent, parents became more invested in their child’s education, and a 50 per cent improvement was recorded in district-specific issue resolution, driving a big change and, in turn, promoting education even more in the areas.
