How Teacher Training and Innovative Teaching Methods Improve Learning Outcomes in State Board Schools

The Indian schooling system is currently active, with approximately 24.8 crore students across 14.72 lakh schools. It also employs a massive number of teachers, standing at 98 lakh. Out of this number, state board schools form a large majority.
With some schools being fortunate enough with enough resources, many barely have sufficient infrastructure to support the chalk and blackboard teaching. With such scenarios being present, a change needs to occur. That’s how Sampark Foundation also started. A way to change learning to become something that shapes the child to do well in the real world and elevate the burden from teachers & administrators to ensure well-being and motivation.
Many elements made this change possible, including teacher training and innovative teaching methods.
Why Teacher Training Is So Important?
At Sampark Foundation, we recognise that teachers are the ones who drive change. When teachers are well supported, only then can they support a healthy classroom environment. Hence, we have created teacher training programs that cover various teaching methods, clear instructions, and demos of how to operate various innovations in education to keep up with the changing times.
Over time, this has led to a reduction in workload in state board schools. Teachers have reported a 50 per cent reduction in lesson planning as their resources and methods of resource utilisation changed to our six digital innovations.
What are our Innovative Teaching Methods?
Five of our six innovative teaching tools are directly used in a classroom. They can broadly be categorised in these sections:
1. Audio-Based Learning Tools: Made with SCERT syllabus for pronunciation practice, AI-driven Speak English Program which supports improvement in teachers’ ability to instruct in English and students’ comprehension and speaking skills.
2. Audio-Visual Learning Tools: Here lies most of the tools. The Smartshala App is a resource full of lesson plans, videos, and question banks that simplify teaching and learning processes. The second one is our Sampark Smart TV, a power adapter with accessories that turns any TV into a smart TV with its pre-loaded engaging content. Lastly, the Sampark Didi ke Sawaal has a KBC-inspired quiz format assessment to help kids overcome exam anxiety.
3. Activity-Based Learning: The fifth tool, the Teach Easy Kit, falls here. It consists of two boxes, one for English and another for Hindi. The boxes contain games that help kids with hands-on experience, toys, physical manipulatives, and audio boxes.
What Happens When Teacher Training & Innovative Teaching Methods are Combined?
We noticed an impact in the 1.30 lakh schools, comprising over 7.95 lakh teachers and 1.69 crore children, which moved towards positive learning outcomes.
When children were taught using innovations in teaching, they scored higher by 32 per cent. They were curious and excited to learn. They were also more likely to attend schools and attain higher education levels.
The teachers, on the other hand, were more motivated and confident. They were more excited to engage with their students than before.
How Does Innovation in Education Spread?
Here’s where you step in! As you see, innovation without implementation gets zero results. It’s nothing more than the idea of something good. Hence, we ensure that our presence is built to last long by dispatching volunteers along SPARKs to help implement the best innovation in teaching. And this person can be you!
